Fractal Art

This is not a photoshopped cheetah photo, it's a fractal image. What's a fractal? A fractal is a kind of a hologram, it's "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be subdivided into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole," a property called self-similarity. The term was coined by BenoƮt Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning "broken" or "fractured."

Creation of a fractal is a random process. Most of the time the artist achieves something other than what he or she planned. More of these surprising images can be viewed at Art of Pain.
